The latest disappointing volume in the Oxford History of the U.S. Like the preceding two volumes of the series Restless Giant is largely focused on federal political actors and reads like a textbook - not inaccurate but with a moderate conservative bias and a tendency to focus on positives.

This one advances the time frame to the period following the specific events of Watergate and takes the reader into the later 1970's and beyond through the Clinton years.
