The White Tiger review by Josh

The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga

Review by Josh80/100Read January 1, 2012

The White Tiger starts out funny and gets progressively darker.

The storyline bears a strong resemblance to Native Son, while the prose reminded me of Absurdistan or perhaps a Confederacy of Dunces. I enjoyed all of those books, so I can hardly be too critical of a writer whose work evokes them.

About the book

Balram Halwai is a complicated man. Servant. Philosopher. Entrepreneur. Murderer. Over the course of seven nights, by the scattered light of a preposterous chandelier, Balram tells the terrible and transfixing story of how he came to be a success in life -- having nothing but his own wits to help him along.
