Juan Antonio Madrid Pérez, a pioneer in the development of chronobiology in Spain, is a professor of physiology and director of the Laboratory of Chronobiology and Sleep at the University of Murcia. He holds a degree in biology (1979), a doctorate in physiology (1983) and a specialisation in nutrition (1985) from the University of Granada, as well as a university diploma in medical chronobiology from the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris (1988). In 2019, the Estivill-Adeslas Foundation awarded him the first Sleep Research Prize in recognition of his research and public outreach work in chronobiology.
